Jazmine Sullivan
Jazmine was born and raised to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother Pam was a backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. At the age of five the father of her was chosen to the position of the city's Historic Strawberry Mansion curator. The family then moved into this historical building. In 2005 she graduated from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts as singer-music major. Sullivan was first singing in the kids' chorus as a contralto and then she joined the adult chorus just a few years later. Sullivan's exposure to secular music was at first limited "I did solos in church . Someone wanted me to join a gospel label when I was 11 years old, but I wasn't prepared to sign that contract," she recalls. "Then the time came that McDonald's held a contest for kids in major cities and I was offered the chance to sing 'Accept what God Allows' on It's Showtime in the Apollo and the audience was very enthusiastic". She was just 13 when she performed alongside Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday. Sullivan had signed her first contract with Jive Records when she was fifteen. There, she recorded an entire album. However, the album never came out. Sullivan was eventually dropped from the record label. She had a good working relationship with Missy Elliott. Elliott produced many of her tracks and tracks, such as "Backstabbers" that was produced by Timbaland.
